Protecting The Environment

Brian is a bicyclist, hiker, and outdoor enthusiast. He is a member of the Sierra Club, MassBike and MassPIRG.

I have been a proud activist and advocate for the environment in Cambridge for over twenty years. As a City Councillor, I have been fighting for environmentally sound development, preservation of Cambridge's open spaces, and increased accessibility and safety for alternative transportation methods. I work hard to make Cambridge a national leader on environmental policy.

As a City Councillor, I have:

• Required new city buildings, such as the City Hall Annex, to be “Green Buildings”
• Worked with the MBTA to expand accessibility and safety as well as increase the number of bus shelters
• Took initiative to ensure that Cambridge would not support corporations that invested in drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
• Instituted a public safety bike tour of Cambridge roads to discuss any needed safety improvements to major roads used by bicyclists

Brian is a member of the renewable Sierra Club, as well as MassBike, MassPIRG, and is a strong supporter of energy programs in Massachusetts.
